Iran's cartoon on Columbus Dispatch

Cartoon disrespectful of Iran, its people
Monday, September 10, 2007 3:25 AM

"The editorial cartoon by Michael Ramirez in Tuesday's Dispatch that pictured Iran as a sewer with cockroaches coming out of it was extremely offensive. Iran, once known as Persia, has a long and cultured history.

I am not a Muslim nor of Middle Eastern descent, nor do I like terrorists. But to reduce a nation of men, women and children to a sinkhole spewing out insects is disgusting." CAROL JEVREM

I am speechless. Why on earth should anyone disrespect a country like this? I am wondering about the reaction of Michael if somebody does the same thing to United States or Japan, his mother's homeland.

  • It is really unfortunate to see such cases. Although we should also ask ourselves what caused such people to draw such cartoons...

  • Despite every internal difficulties Iranian people are having because of an Arab-oriented dictator government, they have still kept their values inherited by their glorious civilization during ages.
Apart from all of the disgust and confusion such a cartoon brings into mind regardless of the nationality of the person who has created it, a simple truth which can easily be revealed is that how much people around the world are incorrectly informed and biased by misleading news agencies and corrupt governments so that even some of the brightest parts of the foreign society, i.e. artists and cartoonists, may have had such a false interpretation of what is going on in a literally well-known country, both from the past civilized point of view and from current diplomatic point of view, like Iran. (This is stated all presuming the creator and publisher of this cartoon were only mislead and have had false imaginations on Iran, and were not funded to ruin their reputation by making such a decision to do this...)

  • I am really sorry for the guy who drawn the picture, he does not know anything about the country and the people of Iran.
if he wants to say Iranian government makes issues in other countries, there were better idea.
I recommend him next time before publishing his caricature, show them to couple of people and ask their idea and also think about it more.
