iPod nano review

I should say I was stunned the first time that I saw this sexy creature. Slim, stylish and neat! Right after, I planned to put one of them in my pocket. Ever since that I carry my black ipod nano while biking to my department I realized that it is not as comfortable as it seems at the first sight. The first fight between me and my ipod happened when I was biking and suddenly the stereo jack came out. I had a hard time to put it back in while I was biking, but afterwards, there were still no sound! Yes the Apple company predicted such a situation and put the ipod automatically in pause mode. But unfortunately they didn't consider the rest of the scenario. So if you plug it back you have to play it again. I reached for the play button which is a challenging task if you are not looking at your ipod panel, but at the end it didn't work! Ahh the lock button ... Since the track pad of ipod has been designed in a way to be super sensitive, unless you put you ipod in locked mode (Similar to keypad locked mode of cellphones) you cant enjoy your music at all. So if your stereo jack come off while biking:

1. Park your bike
2. Plug the stereo jack in
3. Unlock the ipod
4. Push the play button
5. Again lock it! (Believe me that you should always have it locked in your pocket)

The next fight happened when I tried to connect my ipod to my windows machine. From my previous experience with mp3 players I assumed that I can simply interact with an ipod like a flash-drive, and I was right. But if you take a closer look to the playlist directory, you would realize that non of the names of the mp3s that you are browsing seems familiar! Yes ... Apple folks change all of the names of the mp3s which has been transfered to your ipod in order to answer your search queries as fast as possible. This means if you drag and drop a file inside the playlist directory it wouldn't simply work! After searching through the internet I found a software which acts as a translator between your windows and your ipod in order to transfer files back and forth in a way that both of them are happy...

Recently I connected my ipod to my computer in the lab that I am working with, hoping that I can add the mp3s of my lab computer to my ipod, and interestingly I came across to a nice and stylish! question:

Your ipod has been attached to a playlist on another computer, would you like to attach your ipod to this playlist on this computer?

Yes: It will delete! your files on ipod and synchronize the files with the new playlist.
No: This means you can not copy any of the new songs to your ipod!

I still like the way an ipod has been designed, but at the end it is acts like a blonde. It is beautiful but not smart. Plus you always have to carry a long wire in order to connect it to a computer which has iTunes!

Bottom line: If you dont care about the shape of your mp3 player I recommend mobiblu or Creative Muvo TX.

  • i have a creative zen nano, which i like a lot. i hate the restrictiosn that the ipod software puts on you. with zen, i can just connect it to any computer, and copy any file onto it without having to use any software.
